Perry County Ohio Goes to the Movies

The Tecumseh Theater is honored to be the official Perry County venue for Ohio Goes to the Movies, a statewide celebration of film, storytelling, and the communities that bring cinema to life across Ohio.

We’re pleased to present a double feature of two films that champion our region’s history and character.

“KING COAL” by Elaine McMillion Sheldon meditates on the complex history and future of the coal industry, the communities it has shaped, and the myths it has created.

“Oscar-nominated filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon reshapes the boundaries of documentary filmmaking in a spectacularly beautiful and deeply moving immersion into Central Appalachia where coal is not just a resource, but a way of life.” Read more about “KING COAL” here.

“Shawnee, Ohio” by Brian Harnetty is a series of eleven audiovisual portraits of people from a small Appalachian mining town. It uses archival recordings, video, and images alongside newly composed music to critically explore issues of extraction, economy, and ecology in the region.

"Brian Harnetty is an interdisciplinary artist, composer, and author. He is known for his recording projects with sound archives, sound and video installations, socially engaged art projects, live performances, and writings.” Read more about the filmmaker here.

This double feature is free in collaboration with Ohio Goes to the Movies!
